Micowave popcorn (not your Uncle Orville's bag-o-corn)
Store bought microwave popcorn is yet another way that unnecessary toxins are entering our bodies. It's in the oil resistent coating found INSIDE the bags. So not only is the fake butter a known carcinogen (cancer causer), but so is the coating, which is basically teflon (and very toxic) when heated. Don't take my word for it. Check it out for yourself.
So anyhoo, homemade microwave popcorn it is. Here's how;
-plain ol' brown paper lunch bags (no recycled or coated bags)
-a 99 cent bag of popping corn
-seasonings of your choice (melted butter, salt, cajun spices, parmesan cheese, etc.)
Place 1/3 cup kernels in a brown bag (no more or it will pop too full).
Fold over once and staple twice (this will not spark in your microwave, contrary to popular belief; even teabags have a staple in them).
Lie bag on its long side with folded edge up. Gently press out air.
Pop in microwave as you normally would, retrieving when 3-5 seconds between pops is noted.
Open carefully. You now have healthy, air-popped popcorn.
Enjoy "as is" or season and enjoy. It's healthy and frugal.
Note: If your popcorn bag is old, the kernels may not have enough water content in them and will tend to burn in the microwave. Be sure to have a fresh bag of kernels.

Wow! Thanks for the recipe- we will definitely be try this one soon! My 4 year old lives off of popcorn!
That photo is too cute, what a doll!
Wow! What a great idea. And now I'm throwing away my microwavable popcorn. EW! Who knew!?
Hi Honey,
The popcorn idea is great. I will probably be sneaking it into the movies now, as I already sneak my own pop in, in my big purse. O.K. I also sneak dads in too. I don't want to burn by myself.
Love Mom
Oohh! I did not know about the microwave popcorn! Thanks for the new recipe!
I have heard about the danger of microwave popcorn - so I have stopped using them. This sounds like a GREAT idea. But may I ask, what do you mean by a "bag" of popping corn? do you mean one of the microwave kind and you take it out? Can I just use my hot air popping corn?
Janice,
Yes, your air popping corn is what I'm referring to. It's such a win-win because a bag is so inexpensive and will make you so much more than a box of microwaveable corn. I just made it tonight and the first thing my 7yo asked was, "Is this homemade?" The kids actually prefer it.
Blessings,
~Toni~
