Exploring a bit.
The weather has been nothing short of awesome here in Indiana the past two days. Yesterday it was sunshine and temps nearing 80º (good golly, gotta love it). And today, though overcast until late afternoon, was in the 70's and lightly breezy. Now that's my kind of March weather in the midwest! Jackpot.
Since we've all been spreadin' germs around and back again for the past ten days or so, we decided to "get out and air out", if only for our sanity. Yep, we all got out of the house while the house got a much needed airing out of its own. We packed a light lunch and headed southwest to Cloverdale and Cataract, visiting Cagle's Mill Lake and Leiber state recreation area.
Cataract Falls was quite picturesque (known to be the largest falls "by water volume" in IN; sounds like they were pretty desperate to claim a title for their natural wonder, lol).
And there was a covered bridge just above the falls that the kids enjoyed exploring. No folks, this aint Madison County (or even Brown County, Indiana) but hey, a covered bridge is always a neat encounter, especially as most of us don't cross one on any regular basis. Oh, and we thoroughly enjoyed the fact that the park was empty. No tourists (unless you count us).
Now, the dinky dot of a town called Cataract fascinated me. I'm really intriqued by old abandoned houses, ghost towns, and tiny "not on the map" places.
This town fit the bill. There was one (count it) store in the entire town.
It's an old and authentic General Store that has been in operation since the late 1800's. But, as Charlie Brown would say, "I got a rock." Closed on Mondays, she is. Still, we took a few neat photos before easin' on down the road again.
LOL! See that building peeking out from behind the old barn? That's the Cataract volunteer fire department.
All in all, it was a much needed day of getting out and inhaling fresh air as we all try to get over the bug that invaded our home this past week or so. I do Hope you enjoy the photos of our little jaunt.
