If You Give a Gal A Training Class (She'll Probably Want a Map To Go With It)

I was sitting in 8 hours of training today. That barely gets me out of the gate. Don't ask (just don't), because I'm not sure why either, other than being motivated by the fact that this is a big hoop we are suddenly being required to jump through by the state to finalize our adoption (we just found out three days ago.)

I got lost on the way, naturally. Mapquest showed that I could get off the highway just 2 miles from my training class. Only, that particular exit was closed due to construction. Which naturally required me to drive a good four or five miles to the next open exit, turn around and make my way back to my desired mark. Nothing like a good map (Miss Teen South Carolina was right after all; we apparently don't have maps in America.)

And the building was not all that easy to spot anyway. If only they had told me it was just down the road from Put The Swagger Back in Your Step barber shop (no, I'm not kidding about the name; it was painted in Tom Sawyer boyhood font on a very large piece of particle board that had the carved look of intricate beaver handiwork).

On a grounded note, I was reminded today that America needs committed foster and foster/adoptive parents. Have you ever considered it? We were licensed for five years in our former state. We do hope to get involved again in the future as well. If you've ever thought about it, I would encourage you to request some basic information from your local child protective service agency. I would also be happy to answer any questions you might have to the best of my ability. It really is one of the most intense and personal ways to impact the community in which you live.

Glad you finally found your way to the class, even if it was 8 hours long. Hope it wasn't too mind-numbing.

Toni,

Don't you hate when you end up so far from where you directions are supposed to be. For directionally challenged people like me that can cause a lot of distress.

I have been considering the foster programs for quite some time. Do you really recommend it?

I hate Mapquest! It screwed me up going to the beach house, and to Rene's one time!

Hope this is the last hurdle for you guys and Brandon!

How could you forget the horrible state US America is in when it comes to maps? We all need to help educate South Africa.

That being said, I'm so, so proud of you for doing this. You are making a difference in SOOO many ways with your life, Toni. Write or call me soon, K?

Toni,
I think foster parents are amazing and wonderful people. Our life doesn't lend itself to this, but I have some good friends that do.
I pray more people would get involved, it is a huge need.

Blessings,
Sue
