A breakfast chat with Reece

Reece and I were eating breakfast together today. More accurately, Reece was eating while I was gagging it down. That's what happens when your baby has boogers that could double as bungie cords, what with hanging down to his knees and all. Add three fevers (Brandon, Cierah and Reece), a few cases of "bathroom is occupido for a spellito" and uh, welcome to the "H" home, where winter viruses always seem to find their way in.

Okay, so. There we were, gagging down gobbling up our Frosted Mini Wheats. Reece, ever the thinker, began.

"Mom," he pondered, "are we eating grass?"

"Well, uh, yes. Yes, I suppose we are eating grass because wheat is, after all, a grass."

Pleased with my response, he continued.
"Then,.....why aren't these green?"

Being a homeschool mom, I of course began my explanation of photosynthesis, chlorophyll, temperate climates and harvesting. Reece listened intently as I rambled on, then added, "Uh huh. But these aren't green. Why not?"

Me, more specific this time, "Well, because it's made from harvested wheat which was dried out first."

"Oh," he blandly responded, then munched on. Assuming his inquisitive look meant our grass/wheat conversation was not over, I waited for further comments. He didn't disappoint.

"Mom?"
"What, little man."

"Are there little holes in our heads where the hair grows out of?"

Sigh. It's definitely turning out to be one of those days.

Reece, in what we dubbed as his "Sha Na Na" outfit. We Clampetts can dress ourselves real classy like.

Sorry y'all are not feeling well. We've have also had the crud. Not fun when it runs freely through their little bods, is it?
And the boogers on bungee cords? Oh THAT was priceless. You are gifted with the word pictures!

Well bless your heart for being the good homeschooling mom explaining photosynthesis! That early in the morning my answer would have been 'Ask your dad later, now eat your cereal' at best.

Hope the snot dries up around your house soon!!

I love his hair follicle question. And how it very naturally followed a conversation about grass. Chia head, anyone?

I happen to like that outfit. I think he looks very, um, original. In a good way. And he seems quite proud of himself. He's a doll!
