Time for the vittles to get a new nest.
I still have more to share about our thrill ride in Tucson, but it'll have to wait for another day. For now, the latest.
Our dinette is, well, horrid.
It's old.
It's small.
It's falling apart.
It bears the marks of little Picasos (as in markered all up), and, like the etched and scratched erosion of a shoreline, its top layer is long gone. And frankly, if I do say so myself, the dang thing has just seen its better day (which wasn't yesterday or even the day before).
So today we did it. We went out and sought a replacement. Our goal was to go store to store until we'd hit every store in town (because we don't have anything better to do than to drag four kids into glass palaces and watch them not break anything, lol).
We started with the first store.
"Nice stuff y'all got here but if we're walking out with that table and chairs over there, you're dropping the price $300 and that's not including wiping away taxes and delivery." HA!
We walked out, heads held high, while they simultaneously groaned and laughed. I knew we should have let our monkeys have-at-it on their oak "playground."
Wouldn't you know it, we got to the second place and BAMM! A really nice dinette within our budget (you might recall we had an actual furniture budget too, until our furnace failed last November. As winter blew in. And Christmas too. And we kissed that furnitue budget goodbye just. like. that. Swell! Thankfully, the dinette money was saved seperately and we didn't have to use it too, to pay for that furnace repair)
So, even though my family room couch is a golden retro wreck beauty from eras gone by, I'm thrilled to say that we will no longer have to squish in around the dinette we outgrew two kids ago. Our new dinette should arrive in 4-8 weeks and I, for one, cannot wait! Here's a little look-see (and btw, the paint on our walls is very similar to the color in the promotional image so you're getting a little pseudo glimpse into my home).
We like mission style and this table has the requisite clean square lines. But the black windsor chairs anchor the wood tones so they are not overpowering in the midst of other similar woods in the home and the curved line of the chairs softens the overall effect. Love it.

That really is one nice dining set. You should be thrilled for it to be delivered to your home.
Incidentally, I just posted our Raya post with our home spring-cleaned to receive visitors for our Syawal celebrations.
Have a good weekend!
Get the kids some crayons and markers and put them to work on that table, so they'll feel at home!
Oooohhhhh! I like it! Very nice. We bought a new dining set last year including a china cabinet and now I feel like I'm a real grown up with a fancy china cabinet and all.
Oh, I like the wall color too. I'm a yellow girl. Love yellow. Especially with black accents (maybe it's the honeybee in me?). I have yellow in my front room with wood furniture and some black pieces too. It just works, imo.
So suffice it to say, I totally love your new stuff!!
btw...great title post
Yay!!! That is bea-u-ti-ful!!!! I can't wait to see it in person!!!!
Wow I love the new dinnette. I hope there sre no new Picaso paintings on this one.
Beautiful set! We were given some furniture cash when we bought our house about 4 years ago. We bought a HUGE dining table from Cost Plus and LOVE IT!!! We can seat 5 on chairs and one side is a bench which can fit up to six kiddos or a mix of adults and kiddos. We use it all the time and love being able to invite a few people over and all sit at the same table. I know you're gonna love your new set up :)

'Like the etched and scratched erosion of a shoreline, its top layer is long gone.' - Toni! You're slayin' me! Glad to hear you managed to find such a beautiful set - I do love that style, as well.
Wow, Toni. I'm so impressed with that last paragraph! You described that new set perfectly. How fun - new furniture. And look! You can actually see the surface of that table, in that photo. I can't remember the last time mine wasn't completely covered in "stuff" and I'm not talking dishes and you know, food. LOL
Four kids in a glass palace. LOL
Oh, it is like ours! I love it.
That is beautiful! And your description...well, I think you missed your calling as a designer or at least writer of catalogues. (J. Peterman, anyone?) I hope you have many years of sweet memories around that table.
Pone looks great. Still going round and round with the flu but getting better. And yes the Christmas was is on. We'll be doing the Halloween walk soon and I'll let you know how it goes. Scot
Gorgeous!
How awesome to get new stuff, especially when it's so needed. I'm excited for you, and living a bit vicariously through you, too!
I love it! It's nice and big with plenty of room for all the kids!
