Flippin' Out!
The photo in my blog header was taken at the Creation Museum. Just thought you might like to know. ;)
Anyway, I had to go and say it. I told dh that I refused to get excited about "lower" gas prices; that if it dropped below $2.50/gal, then and ONLY then would I "do cartwheels in the road."
Well, today we were driving along and, "Oh look, honey!" He made an abrupt sharp left turn and parked us smack in front of a BP sign where, in big red numbers, I read, "reg $2.49." Uh,...
"Wow, $2.49. That's the lowest I've seen in eons."
"Uh uh. Not so fast, Willie. You said if the gas prices dropped below $2.50, you would do cartwheels, uh cartWHEELS, as in plural, as in more than ONE cartwheel, in the road. I'm not gonna hold you to all those extras you signed on for, but oh yes you most certainly will do a cartwheel. Just one."
"I,...uh..."
"Out!"
"But I'll prolly pull a...."
"No excuses. Get to flippin'."
Oh what the heck! And so it was. I, in the midst of THIS season, jumped out of our van in front of our children and any passersby who happened to notice the crazy lady in the Sunshine Cafe parking lot, and did it.
I did a cartwheel right there for all to see.
And I must say that while it wasn't as smooth as my gymnast cheerleader days of long ago, it wasn't half bad for a 40 something mother of four.
(Note: Dh wasn't about to cut me a break on this one. After all, this is the guy who, when my 'vette odometer rolled over to 100,000 miles, jumped out of the car in the dark of night, went out in front of the headlights on a busy route and did a crazy Steve Erkel-like victory dance without warning)
And from the Reece files...
*Today we were discussing the meaning of names. I shared with Cierah that her name means majestic mountains. I then reminded Olivia that her name means peace.
"What does my name mean, Mommy?" inquired 6yo Reece.
Trying to decide how I would explain enthusiasm, impetuance or passion, I went silent.
"Gump."
"What?"
"Gump. My name means Gump."
I laughed soooo hard. For those who know my Reece, you would understand how fitting it was. Not in a bad way. Reece is just his own little person. Endearing. Quirky. Very funny. And thus, in some ways, yes. My own little Gump. But how he came up with that, I have no clue (has never seen the movie, nor does he even know of it to my knowledge).
And this too from Reece...
*Today I gave him an early bath. As I was drying him off he said with great sincerity and warmth, "I love you, Mom." As I returned his sentiment, he added, "I wish there was a whole bowl of you so I could jump in to all that lovin'." :D

Awww, what a sweet story! There's just something so special about those boys, isn't there?!
This is a warm yet funny post!
Doing cartwheels in the road for all to see. Priceless! DH is right. One must walk the talk.
Thanks for the smiles and warm feeling you've given me today. I really needed it for these coming days.
Reese does have a way with words!
I couldn't do cartwheels when I was a kid; I SURE wouldn't attempt it now.
Sweet, sweet moments! And if ONLY your dh had wielded the handy-dandy camera to capture those oh-so-graceful cartwheels we all would be chuckling! You GO girl! :)
I want video!! How funny is that??
I wish I would have seen the cartwheel. I know exactly where you were when you did them.
I would like to advocate for Reece that he gets extra dessert tonight for that one... How sweet!
Peace,
:)De
Did you get a pic of you doing the cartwheels? I would love seeing that for sure!!
Reese is quite the character! We just have to meet next summer!!
I have to say I admire a woman of her word, Toni.
How sweet!
I don't think I could do a graceful cartwheel...
Isn't that Reese too, too cute!
I got all teary-eyed at that! Aw, that must warm your mama's heart!
Good for you for rockin' the cartwheel! Our gas is still at about 3.17 per gallon here in So Cal, so I'd probably be doing a happy dance if it hit 2.50.
I've been loving your blog since the Lucille Ball lives at Denny's story, but I had to comment on this one! Way to go, Toni!!! LOL! Where's the camera when you need it?

That bowl comment of Reece's was sooo wonderful. It needs to be written somewhere...published or something.
As far as the cartwheel, BD and I had a good laugh about it driving down the road driving past a gas station sign (it reminded us). I jokingly told him that I would never promise such a thing, but that if gas got below 2.00, I would. (Of course, I think it never will). But yesterday he got gas for 2.17 in Brownsburg!!! I'm getting scared. Any tips for me?
No amount of cartwheeling will save you from my Tag! You're it!
