VBS ROCKS ( because *I* say so)
Aren't vacation bible schools (VBS) the best? I realize this goes without saying if you value the message of the Gospel and desire your children to have opportunities to learn more about what Christ has done for them, on their behalf. Good enough, yes?
But throw in the built in benefit for tired parents, TWO FREE HOURS OF TIME TO HAVE AN ADULT CONVERSATION WITHOUT INTERRUPTION (and yes, I'm shoutin' it out loud), and well, VBS rocks!!! Because I said so.
My kids have been attending VBS all week at a large, local church and they're having a great time. Meanwhile, Carl and I have enjoyed dinners at anywhere but McDonald's playlands (oh, the sheer joy.) Yesterday, we decided to get the kids some dollar store surprises "just because." Olivia got a little plastic horse (she collects horses), and Cierah got a book. And Reece was the easiest to buy for because that boy knows what he wants and it was within our dollar store price range. See, our little man got the item of his dreams; A turkey baster.
Oh, yes he did too. He has wanted his own turkey baster for the longest time. We already got him the plastic kitchen funnel he wanted awhile back (stop, I am too serious.) And now he has a turkey baster to go with it. How easy is it to please that child? Give him a toy sand bucket filled with water, a funnel and a turkey baster and he's good for hours on end.
Now, his pride and joy is his marble tower, and he also dearly loves his "gooey" collection (gooies: novelty water toys that collect dust in the hands of anyone but my Reece). For now though, the turkey baster reigns supreme as his gadget of preference. And I sooo need to get a picture of him playing with it, because I know he'll deny this story as fact someday when I share it with his bride-to-be (devious smile displayed).
On a final unrelated note, Olivia was reading one of her many The Boxcar Children titles today. She told me the kids in the story were doing their schoolwork on a boat.
"Cool, Liv. They're being homeschooled too."
"Uh, Mom? I believe that would be boat-schooled."
Not that she picks up on any of my sarcastic humor or anything.

A turkey baster? Well, of course! LOL Around here it's my salad tongs. Honestly, why waste money of Fisher Price!
If she's inherited your sense of humor, I'd say it's going to fun times around your place. How cute.
You know, I never heard of VBS at night but everywhere I go out here, seems the kids are in VBS during the evening. I can see where that would be kind of nice.
OK, off to get this last crazy weekend before the wedding going. Hope yours is good, too. :-)
Does Reece like to cook, too?
I love the idea of a turkey baster for water play! I'll pick up a few on my next dollar store trip! What fun!

If only they would STAY that easy to buy for....
pleased your kids are been having fun :)
and youve been getting a break
And when he's 30, he'll say, "and you know what my parents got me once? A turkey baster! What's up with that?"
We have had VBS this week too. A whole 2 hours of silence. The kids were able to ride bike to the church, and Knight has that look. "Hey honey...we have a couple of free hours during waking hours..."
Yeah, I think I'd rather go out for a nice meal at McDonalds. lol
Blessings to all,
De
A turkey baster! That is too cute.
I loved the 'boat schooling' comment. We have a Box Car lover at our house too...He almost read them all. I hope to turn my youngest on to them next.
love VBS! Ours starts the end of July. I have a little one and this will be her second year... She loves it!
Deee-lightful!
I wish I had a turkey baster. I am going to ask my Mom to bring me one when she visits. The Dutch don't eat turkey, at least not *our* way, thus no turkey basters in the country.
Loved the boatschooled comment. I have one of those sharp as a tack, quick wit kids too! She'll keep you on your toes.
I remember when my (1st batch of kids) little ones all went to VBS, I was also a homeschool Mom and doing the dance of joy to have some time to myself.
You enjoy it! VBS rocks!
